The post credit sequence also had me groaning in my seat. After everything that came before that felt so artificial.

Hi Robert, you recommend Film Blackness by Gillespie in your Twitter recently. Do you think you'd be able to recommend any books like that? Not necessarily books specific to race (though that would be most welcome) but just books on understanding film in general (through whatever lens). I'm trying to broaden my critical apparatus

I haven't seen BP2 yet, but it feels like the film doesn't quite have the buzz, excitement, momentum, etc. of the first film. (I say this as someone who saw the first BP in the theater five times – so perhaps my perspective is off.) If that's generally true, I wonder why? Is it inevitable that a sequel (without its star) would seem less thrilling? Marvel fatigue? Further proof of declining monoculture? Maybe, as you suggest, the film just isn't as good as its predecessor? Combination of all of the above? Or maybe my perceptions are just way off and it will similarly blow up...
