After missing the sequel to Rian Johnson’s wildly successful whodunit at TIFF, at Virginia Film Festival, I finally managed to catch up with the return of the director’s premiere detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig).

In this installment, Johnson took inspiration from Herbert Ross’ The Last of Sheila. And while both films center manipulative puppet masters working their rich friends into a frenzy to solve their imaginary murders, as a game, Johnson manages to chart a different direction with his take.

As a treat for paid subscribers (most of my other reactions out of Virginia will be free for everyone), I’ll provide my quick thoughts on the film rather than do a formal review.
